Tiger rides shotgun promoting The Honda Classic

Not only is the PGA Tour the major, most prestigious golf league in the world, it is also one of the best marketing platforms. This organization continues to promote itself, and associated sponsors throughout the season. One of its main forms of marketing is the corporate sponsorship that goes hand in hand with every tournament. In most recent news, the PGA Tour continues its prominent season with The Honda Classic, which takes place February 24-March 2, 2014. This tournament should promote the Honda brand with tremendous success, as it is expected to have the highest viewer rating of any tournament this year, for one reason… Tiger Woods.

As you may know Tiger Woods is the most prominent golfer of his era, and when he decides to play, the sponsors decide to pay. His “divine presence” in this tournament as well as the top ten golfers in the world such as Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy have sparked the interests in various companies to associate their brand with this tournament. The title sponsor,Honda, has contributed over $24 million to national and local charities since the start of this tournament. The success of this tournament has also attracted over a hundred sponsors, such as Coca Cola, Kettle One Vodka, and even the Miami Dolphins organization. 

By associating its brand name with this tournament, Honda will experience a tremendous advantage in the market due to excelled marketing. Honda directly markets their product name trough charity donations, and displaying their title every time this tournament is displayed. Also, Honda benefits from excelled brand recognition due to the strong player field in this tournament. Tiger Woods will single handedly raise the number of viewers by a substantial amount, as viewers have waited over a month to just watch him play.  As the highly anticipated round of Tiger Woods starts on the first tee, there will undoubtedly be a new Honda glistening in his backswing.
