My classmates and myself listened to our amazing teacher, Professor Weinberg, talk about Marketing late afternoon of September 17th. That same night hundred-of-thousands of “Apple Inc.” fans across America started to set up camp for one of their most anticipated days of the year, September 19th, the day the Iphone 6 was released.
The advanced Iphone 6 had new incredible features such as a new sleeker design, bigger display, a state-of-the-art camera, and a much needed memory boost. Not only was the display bigger but you could also choose the new Iphone 6 Plus, the first Apple Phablet. The Iphone 6 Plus gave Iphone users a choice they never had before; a choice in a bigger screen size.
Apple fans went crazy for the new Iphones, and could not wait for their next product, the Apple Watch:
Myself, I am an ex-Iphone user who switched to the Samsung Galaxy about a year ago. As the news about the Iphone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch came out I was not impressed as my peers whom would sell their own mother to get their hands on Apple’s latest technology. Apple did not live up to my expectations of a new and improved Iphone. All I saw was a company trying to play catch up with the rest of the mobile phone market.
The Apple Iphone 6 Plus phablet was nothing new. Samsung released their first phablet almost 3 years ago. The Apple Watch was in the same boat; Samsung released their smartwatch about a year ago. Same goes for Apple’s new and bigger Iphone screens; Samsung released their first large screen phone back in 2010.
How does Apple do it? Apple users have stayed with an inferior and slower moving technology who is playing catch up with it’s competitors. Streets in front of Apple stores still get crowded like it was the release of the first Iphone.
Innovation is what gave Apple their competitive advantage since the company started in the late 1970s. Now loyal customers and social forces bring in new customers and bring back users they have had since the company started. Customers stay with apple for their convenience of features like imessage, facetime, and Itunes. As long as your friends keep using the Iphone, you will do the same.
My advice to Iphone users would be to switch to another company who still uses innovation and come up with unique ideas. Iphones will bore you with their catch up antics, and will probably bend in your pocket…
