New System = More Success

For the first time ever there will be a college football playoff instituted in the 2014 season. For many football fans the time has finally come where they can watch four teams battle it out to prove who is the best. In the past, to determine a champion there was a Bowl Championship Series also called the BCS where the top two ranked teams in college football duked it out to earn the top honor. Many people didn’t agree with the BCS system as it only allowed two teams to earn a shot at the title even though other teams might deserve an opportunity.

With the new system the top 4 teams get into the playoffs and this makes for more interesting and engaging games since a “Cinderella” team might appear out of nowhere. In previous years this would not have been able to happen. This new system will create a lot more excitement and more people will watch because they will want to see if an underdog can take down the big number one ranked team. In my opinion, the best thing about watching college basketball’s March Madness is trying to guess which team is going to be the Cinderella team and shock the nation by making it far into the playoffs. With college football now adopting a similar playoff system, even though there aren’t nearly as many teams involved, the excitement factor is still there.

Since more fans will be watching the college football playoffs in additional to more games being added to determine the champion, a lot more revenue will be generated. The teams that make it to the playoffs are actually also marketing their schools because their performance will encourage more recruits to want to attend a school where they have a chance to be champions. All in all, with the new playoff system implemented in college football, it not only helps all the institutions involved by promoting them but it also will create a great football atmosphere and will keep football fans on the edge of their seats!
