Bare Naked…With Makeup?

Hitting the runway hard this fall was an absolutely shocking new trend – the “natural” look! Designers like Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Jason Wu, Vera Wang, Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Diane Von Furstenberg, Giambattista Valli, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, and Lacoste have all inspired this movement through their emphasis on rosy cheeks, nude colored lips and light eye makeup on the models walking the show, seen below.

But hold on a minute. “Natural” makeup. Isn’t that a bit contradictory? If designers are trying to inspire self-confidence in women by telling them the “natural” look is best, then why do they still need concealer and foundation for an airbrushed look? Why do they need nude lipstick and soft berry blush? Is that really “natural”?
